The tonsils and adenoids may become enlarged either after an infection or naturally. When this occurs it can cause several problems which include difficulty breathing, especially when sleeping, or difficulty swallowing. Children with large tonsils and adenoids may develop sleep disturbed breathing or even sleep apnea, which is when they stop breathing due a blockage in their throat. Untreated, these conditions may cause hyperactivity, day time fatigue, difficulty to wake up in the morning, bed wetting, headaches or restless sleep. If you child has any of these symptoms, an evaluation by a board certified ENT at ENTAA Care can help determine if surgery may be indicated in your case. Evaluation will include a history, physical and possibly a sleep study to determine the appropriate course of therapy.
